Summer Fun!

It’s so hard for me to believe, but my kiddos are already on summer break. This year has flown by at lightening speed and now we are ready to kick back and relax and enjoy our time in the sun. While we are ramping up for all of our big summer trips, we are also taking the time to enjoy picnics, camping and lazy days by the pool. And during one of those lazy days we discovered just how easy and fun it is to make ice cream in a bag!

My kids and I have been having “picnics” in our backyard lately, where we forgo the nice dining set on the patio in lieu of a blanket on the grass. It’s a fun time to connect as a family and to spend quality time outdoors. We sometimes find ourselves spending hours out there, eating and laughing. I make sure to pack fun foods and lots of sunscreen!

We love Banana Boat® sun care products because they are tested in seven conditions (sun, pool and ocean waters, wind, sweat, sand and extreme heat) so no matter what we are doing, we are covered. I also really appreciate that they have so many different products and levels of SPF that the fun is uninterrupted. I always stock up on mine when I am at Walmart and keep some in my car, in my house and in our beach bag.

On our most recent “picnic,” we decided to try making our own ice cream in a bag. It was super entertaining for the kids to see how easy the whole process was and I even let them measure and pour all of their own ingredients. It was their project from start to finish.

To make the ice cream, use a quart size zipped baggie to add 1/2 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of cream, 3 Tbs sugar and 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract. Fill a gallon size zipped baggie half full of ice and add 1/2 cup of coarse salt. Put the quart baggie into the gallon baggie and shake it, stir it, kick it around, just keep mixing for 8-10 minutes.

After 8-10 minutes of time for your kiddos to work those wiggles out, you’ll have delicious, soft serve vanilla ice cream that you can top or customize as you wish!

I can’t believe that I am just figuring out how great ice cream in a bag is! I’m also just understanding that 1 ounce of sunscreen should be applied to each person every two hours to keep your family having fun in all seven conditions I shared above. As with our ice cream, I have found that making any activity, sunscreen application included, fun makes it so much easier on kids and helps them feel that it is less of a chore.

So get outside with your kiddos this summer and enjoy the beautiful weather! Make some ice cream in a bag, make some memories and make sure to take your Banana Boat® with you as well!
