Where I’ve been and what I am working on now

It feels like I’ve been a bit absent from the blog lately and I just wanted to fill you all in on where I’ve been and what I am working on now.

As you may have read, my kiddos were on spring break (they attend a year round school so they had two and half weeks off!) and we made sure to keep busy.  Between having out of state guests, a trip to the beach and then another jaunt down to Georgia to take care of a house that we own there, we were constantly on the move.  It was great because we didn’t have a chance to get bored, but also exhausting.  By the time that all of the dust settled I didn’t have it in me to head to the computer to get posts ready.  All I had was just enough juice to throw together a quick dinner and plop into bed by 9:00.

Now that the kids are back in school and I am out of the haze, I am getting back to work.  But instead of throwing little projects your way every couple of days I am going to tackle a project that has been looming over me since we moved into this house.  The laundry room.

Plain and simple, it sucks.

It is small (almost comically so compared to my home) and has no space to hide anything.  Come on, 9 foot ceilings and one wire shelf?!  With five of us, it is always in use and severely neglected.  It’s the first door that I close off when I have unexpected company and the one space that I am embarrassed by.  So it’s time to change it!  Don’t judge me too harshly from these photos…it was hard for me to take honest before pics because it’s so icky in there!

My poor hubby…anytime that he goes away for awhile I start ripping apart another piece of the house.  There are always changes when he comes home and it probably drives him crazy.  DIYing is therapeutic for me though and I can’t tell you how much I need that right now.

This is our home in Georgia. Quite a bit different than where we are at now, but we bought it as a foreclosure and completely redid the entire home (of course it was all done before I blogged!). We love it and all of the memories that we made there.

My goal is to completely change around my laundry room.  To make it the space that I envision will take some effort and some time, so I might not be on here as often as before.  But I promise that I am going to take lots of photos, curse all too often and share my results with you.  I will be back soon to show you my progress and hope that you will go through this process with me.  It may take a week or two, but I am determined to make my hot mess laundry room gorgeous.

  1. I love your honest pictures. They are inspiring they bring us hope for all of our hot mess areas 🙂

I have moved from 10 yrs with a bifold door laundry closet to an actual laundry room, which is great, but I have not settled on a plan for it, so it is a hot mess too!

Can’t wait to see what you do!

    • Melissa, I am SO glad to hear that…because it was hard to show just how terrible I am about throwing all of my random things into that room. It is one thing to see the mess everyday, but another thing entirely to see it in pictures. I am pretty darn excited with the progress so far, so hopefully it will encourage you to take advantage of the extra space in your new laundry room too!
