How to Get Your Kids to Fold Their own Laundry With all free clear

This post is sponsored by all free clear but my love for their products is all my own!

My kids are basically walking tornadoes.  I swear, any room in our house that they even walk through is just covered in chaos by the time that they walk out.  When I ask them to clean their rooms, you might think that I was asking which limb they would like to lose, with all of the theatrics and tears.

But I have been slowly figuring out ways to keep them engaged and excited about cleaning.  Chore money has to be the number one enticer, but extra screen time, family outings and special desserts have also been helping me out as well.  Making the cleaning fun is also a huge factor for my kids.  That’s why when I started to notice that all of their clean laundry that I had spent hours washing, drying, folding and putting away was all over their floors, I created a super simple shirt folding board for each of them.

And that, my fiends, is how you get your kids to fold their own laundry!  It’s basically the old Tom Sawyer whitewashing trick, but thankfully my kids are too young to have read any Mark Twain.  Haha!

And while I have made folding laundry easier in my home, I’ve also taken steps to make the laundry process easier as well.  Have you guys seen the all free clear mighty pacs?  They are basically the greatest thing that my laundry room has ever seen.  The pacs have pre-measured detergent in them that is perfect for anyone with sensitive skin.  They are perfume and dye free and hypoallergenic, but they are still amazing at getting out the dirt and stains that my kids seem to collect.  all free clear has loads of options (haha, pun intended!), but I find that the mighty pacs are a quick and easy one step process.  And good news…it’s safe for HE washers.

Okay, so you want to trick your kiddos into folding fun?  All you need is a piece of dollar store foam core board, duct tape and a sharp knife or scissors.  The board that I am showing you uses the whole sheet of foam core board and works perfectly for my nine year old.  I made scaled down versions for my six and five year olds, which I’ll explain in a minute.

Using a 30×20″ foam core board, cut two pieces at 9x 20,” one piece at 8×12″ and one piece at 12×12″ (for the smaller version, I cut each piece 2″ smaller).  Pull out your duct tape and tape the 8″ piece to the 12″ piece as shown in the picture below.  Make sure that the tape is about equal covering both sides as this will act as a hinge.

Next, tape the two long sides on, but make sure that your tape does not go lower than the hinge point on your first piece of tape.

To use the shirt folder, lay a shirt on the board with the front of the shirt towards the board.  Start by folding up one side, then the other.  Now fold up from the bottom and gently flip the shirt around.

  1. This is awesome! I wonder if it would work on my husband!!

  2. I used to work at macys, we had a huge bulky similar device about 10yrs ago. I hated using it because it would crease the clothing from how heavy it was. I love this idea, simple, light, and foam. This will definitely make laundry fun.
