DIY Ornament Initial Wreath

I have to confess that I am basically just brushing past Thanksgiving this year and moving straight on to Christmas.  As you may remember, we aren’t really celebrating a traditional Thanksgiving this year and, well I just love Christmas.  So I’ve been busy working on some new projects and holiday crafts to decorate my home with.

This super simple, inexpensive yet beautiful DIY Ornament Initial Wreath is my latest project.

It was so quick and easy that I knocked it out while waiting for paint to dry during my home office makeover.  All you need is a wooden letter, some plastic ornaments, hot glue, paint and a small piece of coordinating ribbon.  Still with me?  Alright, let’s do it!

I had my letter L hanging around from a previous (FAILED) project, so it was already painted a color that matched my ornaments.  You will want to make sure to paint your letter a coordinating color as some of it will still show behind the ornaments.  I found these fun ornaments at Hobby Lobby and used my 40% off coupon to snag them at a great price.  I just loved the colors!  Reminded me of the old retro Christmas movies.

Start by hot gluing ornaments to the letter, making sure that you are working to cover the outer edges first.  Once you have the outer ornaments glued on, add some to the center, placing on top of outer ornaments if necessary.  You can add as few or as many ornaments as you like, so play around and see what fits you best.

When your ornaments are all glued on, hot glue a small piece of ribbon on the back to serve as your hanger.  Or you can alternately set it on your mantel, like I have shown above.  I just couldn’t decide which way I liked it more!

Are you already decorating for Christmas or are you trying to hold off until December rolls around?  It seems that the yearn for Christmas decor is coming earlier and earlier for me each year.
